THE LAWRENCE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN REGULAR SESSION THURSDAY NIGHT AT THEIR NEW LOCATION ON SPRINGER ROAD IN THE OLD COLUMBIA STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE BUILDING. THE MEETING BEGAN WITH RECOGNIZING RETIRED EDUCATOR ROYCE NEIDER. DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS MICHAEL ADKINS THEN REPORTED TO BOARD MEMBERS THAT COVID NUMBERS CONTINUE TO DECLINE AND THAT AS OF YESTERDAY THERE WERE 15 STUDENTS OUT OF 6800 THAT WERE POSITIVE 19 IN QUARANTINE 7 WAITING ON TESTS AND 2 TEACHERS HAVE TESTED POSITIVE. BIDS FOR THE LORETTO GYM HAVE COME BACK AND A WORK SESSION WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR THE THIRD WEEK IN NOVEMBER TO DISCUSS. ACADEMIC RECOGNITIONS REFLECTING POSITIVE DATA ON WHERE STUDENTS ARE AT WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE DECEBER 2ND MEETING AND AN OPEN HOUSE OF THE NEW BOARD OF EDUCATION FACILITY WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE PRIOR TO THE MEETING FROM 3 TO 5. LEADERS APPROVED THE EARLY GRADUATION OF 12 STUDENTS ALONG WI THE WINTER SPORTS SCHEDULE AND APPROVED THE ANNUAL STATE COMPLIANCE REPORT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IS COMPLIANT WITH FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS ALONG WITH STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RULES.
