A COLBERT COUNTY MAN IS DEAD AFTER A FATAL HOUSE FIRE IN TUSCUMBIA MONDAY MORNING. THE TIMES DAILY REPORTS, THE MAN HAD OUTSTANDING WARRANTS AND WAS A PERSON OF INTEREST IN AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION BY THE TUSCUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT. OFFICERS ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE 42 YEAR OLD IN CUSTODY BEFORE HE RAN INTO A RESIDENCE ON RIVERVIEW DRIVE. 90 MINUTES LATER THE HOUSE CAUGHT ON FIRE TRAPPING THE MAN INSIDE.
AUTHORITIES ARE NOT RELEASING THE NAME UNTIL POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION AND CONTACT WITH FAMILY HAS BEEN MADE. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAD BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE THE SUBJECT FOR SOME TIME AND HAD JUST RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT HE WAS AT THE LOCATION WHERE THEY CONFRONTED HIM BEFORE HE BARRICADED HIMSELF. TWO OFFICERS SUFFERED SOME BURNS, CUTS AND SCRAPES FROM THEIR EFFORTS IN TRYING TO GET THE SUBJECT OUT OF THE HOUSE AND WERE TREATED AT THE SCENE. THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.
