ON MONDAY, DEPUTIES WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT INITIATED A TRAFFIC STOP FOR IMPROPER REGISTRATION BEING DISPLAYED ON A GOLD CADILLAC. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS KNOWN FOR NOT HAVING A LICENSE AND AS DEPUTIES APPROACHED THE VEHICLE AN ODOR OF MARIJUANA WAS PRESENT AND THE DRIVER ADMITTED TO HAVING MARIJUANA ROACHES IN THE VEHICLE. FOLLOWING A SEARCH, INVESTIGATORS SPOKE WITH THE PASSENGER, KAYLA NIX, WHO ADVISED SHE HAD 19 SUBOXONE STRIPS LOCATED INSIDE HER BODY CAPAVITY. NIX WAS PLACED UNDER ARREST AND ONCE AT THE JAIL IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT NIX HAD APPROXIMATELY 2 GRAMS OF HEROIN AS WELL. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS WOULD LIKE TO STRONGLY EMPHASIZE THAT HIDING DRUGS INSIDE BODY CAVITIES IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF LACED WITH FENTANYL SOMETHING THAT ALOT OF NARCOTICS HAVE BEEN FOUND WITH LATELY. IF AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD OVERDOSE, OFFICERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL MAY NOT FIND THE DRUGS THAT ARE HIDDEN IMMEDIATELY.
