After many years of planning, location scouting, and approvals by the city, the Tennessee Children's Home broke ground this week on what will be the site of its new campus.
The new Children's Home campus will be located at 2225 Robertson Road in Maury County.
The Children's Home was originally founded in 1909 as the Tennessee Orphan Home in Columbia. It has long stood just of Main Street at 804 Branham Hughes Circle since 1934, adjacent to the historic Ferguson Hall.
The home's residential program serves more than 100 at-risk youth daily, focusing on boys aged 13-18. It currently houses 32 boys, who live on campus for 3-9 months.
Once completed, the new campus will feature six group homes, a multipurpose building that will house the school, as well as a counseling center, case manager offices, a pantry, gym, and cafeteria. There will also be outdoor recreational areas the youth will have access to.
Anyone in Giles or surrounding county's interested in getting involved in the new campus project, or to donate to the Building the Future campaign are urged to contact (931) 486-2274 ext. 218.
