THE GILES COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN REGULAR SESSION THURSDAY. AMONG THE ITEMS DISCUSSED INCLUDED BIDS FOR SCHOOL BUS TIRES IN WHICH ONLY ONE VENDOR PRESENTED A BID.  THE BOARD VOTED TO TABLE THE BID UNTIL THEY COULD COMPARE WITH A STATE CONTRACT. THE BOARD WAS ADVISED THE TO BE READY FEDERAL GRANT HAD BEEN APPROVED FOR $84,000 FOR THE SUMMER PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS KINDERGARTEN, FIRST AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS IN THE COUNTY. A CONTRACT FOR EMMETT SMITH AND ASSOCIATES PROFESSIONAL SERVICES WAS APPROVED AND THE BOARD AGREED TO SELL 30 OLD DESK AND CHAIRS PLUS A TV CART AT RICHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. CTE DIRECTOR REPORTED TO THE BOARD THAT HIS DEPARTMENT HAD RECEIVED A $72,000 CARL PERKINS GRANT WHICH WAS APPROVED BY THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT AND DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS. THE NEXT WORK SESSION WILL BE JUNE 20 AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE AND NEXT BOARD MEETING IS SCHEDULED ON JULY 11TH AT 5 P.M.
