A FRIDAY EVENING TRAFFIC CRASH HAS CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A WAYNE COUNTY TEEN. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON CATAWBA ROAD, AFTER A 1998 FORD EXPLORER WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND HYDROPLANED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE S-U-V WENT OFF ONTO THE LEFT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD STRIKING A TREE, THEN OVERTURNED ONTO THE PASSENGER SIDE, BEFORE STRIKING ANOTHER TREE ON THE DRIVER SIDE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. THE DRIVER, SIXTEEN-YEAR OLD ASHTIN S GRIMES, OF COLLINWOOD, WAS KILLED IN THE ACCIDENT. GRIMES WAS A STUDENT AND FOOTBALL PLAYER AT COLLINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL. TWO OTHER JUVENILES WERE IN THE VEHICLE BUT WERE NOT REPORTED INJURED. THE CRASH WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL.
