A FRIDAY NIGHT FIRE DESTROYED A PORTION OF A LAWRENCEBURG APARTMENT COMPLEX.  AROUND 8 PM, THE LAWRENCEBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE PROPERTY LOCATED ON OLD FLORENCE ROAD.  FIRST ARRIVING CREWS NOTED THE FACILITY WAS HEAVILY INVOLVED IN FIRE AND SMOKE.   UNITS FROM NEW PROSPECT, LEOMA, GANDY, ETHRIDGE, CROSSROADS, AND HENRYVILLE ASSISTED IN THE EFFORT.  FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO CONTAIN THE BLAZE TO ONE PORTION OF THE APARTMENT COMPLEX HOWEVER THE EFFECTED AREA IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS.  CITY FIREFIGHTERS REMOVED ONE PERSON WHO WAS STILL INSIDE THE BURNING BUILDING WHILE ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL WAS AIRLIFTED TO VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER IN CRITICAL CONDITION.  LAWERENCE COUNTY EMS, LAWRENCEBURG POLICE, AND BOX 50 RESPONDER SERVICES UNIT ASSISTED AT THE SCENE.  THE AMERICAN RED CROSS WAS CALLED TO AID THE TEN DISPLACED FAMILIES.  INVESTIGATION INTO WHAT STARTED THE FIRE IS UNDERWAY.
