A BRIEF CHASE BY SAINT JOSEPH POLICE OFFICERS NETTED DRUGS AND MORE LAST WEEK.  ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT, ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST, OFFICERS OBSERVED 40 YEAR OLD JIMMY RAY NIX OF WEST POINT DRIVING IN A VEHICLE WITH EXPIRED TAGS ON SOUTH OLD MILITARY ROAD.  NIX, WHO WAS SOUGHT BY AUTHORITIES FOR OUTSTANDING WARRANTS, FLED FROM OFFICERS AFTER THEY ATTEMPTED TO STOP HIS VEHICLE.  THE CHASE ENDED A SHORT TIME LATER AFTER ANOTHER SAINT JOSEPH UNIT WAS ABLE TO BLOCK NIX IN AT THE INTERSECTION WITH HIGHWAY 43.  AFTER A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, AUTHORITIES UNCOVERED 14 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE AND MULTIPLE ITEMS OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA WHILE NIX WAS FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF A LOADED 45 CALIBER HANDGUN. NIX WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH VIOLATION OF PROBATION, POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCHEDULE II FOR RESALE, POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY, AND EVADING ARREST.  OFFICERS INDICATE FURTHER CHARGES IN THE MATTER ARE PENDING AS THEY BELIEVE NIX'S CAR AND CASH HE HAD ON HIM AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WERE PROCEEDS FROM ILLEGAL DRUG TRANSACTIONS.  HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE LAWRENCE COUNTY JAIL WITHOUT BOND.
