THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE REPORTED TWO CASES OF EQUINE INFECTIOUS ANEMIA IN WEST TENNESSEE. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, TWO HORSES IN SHELBY COUNTY TESTED POSITIVE FOR EIA AND ARE CURRENTLY UNDER QUARANTINE. THIS DISEASE IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR HORSES AS THERE IS NO VACCINE OR TREATMENT FOR EIA. SOME TIPS TO PREVENT EQUINE INFECTIOUS ANEMIA INCLUDE: SEPARATE SYMPTOMATIC HORSES, KEEP YOUR BARN CLEAN AND DRY TO REDUCE INSECT POPULATION, AND APPLY SPRAYS AND INSECT REPELLANTS AS NEEDED.
