The National Weather Service in Nashville is warning residents across Middle Tennessee to prepare for a dangerous heat wave, with the highest temperatures expected Tuesday and Wednesday. Forecasters say much of the region faces a major to extreme heat risk, with afternoon heat index values ranging from 100 to 110 degrees. Daytime highs are predicted between 87 and 97 degrees, while overnight lows will remain warm, hovering around 70 to 78 degrees, providing little relief. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., and check on elderly neighbors, children, and pets. The extreme risk especially endangers anyone without access to adequate cooling or hydration. As of news time, all Tennessee counties in the WLX coverage area have been placed under a Heat Advisory until 8 PM on Wednesday (7/30). Counties in our North Alabama coverage area are under a Heat Advisory until Tuesday (7/29) at 9 PM.
