A re-occurring scam is back… local authorities are warning area residents of a scam that’s been circulating throughout Middle Tennessee is back.
Local authorities have taken reports from victims who have been scammed out of large sums of money. They’ve been contacted by phone, mail, or email.
Victims have reported receiving calls from a spoofed number, indicating the call is from the local Sheriff’s Department the phone number may be the same. The fraudulent letters and emails bear a letterhead with the sheriff’s department information.
The victim is informed that a warrant has been issued against them for missing jury duty. The caller state’s that a fee must be paid via bitcoin or gift cards in order to rectify the situation.
All local authorities state, this is not the way the court system operates.
Before you consider paying anything, contact local law enforcement and speak to an officer, here in Giles County call 931-363-3505.
