The American Library Association has awarded $3.5 million in grant funding to 300 small and rural libraries across the country, helping them increase accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Among the recipients is the Ardmore Public Library, which received a $10,000 grant to make significant facility improvements.
To qualify for the grant, libraries had to be located in communities with populations under 25,000 and at least five miles from the nearest urbanized area.
The bulk of the Ardmore grant will fund the installation of an automatic door system, allowing easier entry for patrons with mobility challenges.
Additional improvements will include a more accessible circulation desk designed to better serve individuals using wheelchairs.
With funding now in place, the Ardmore Public Library plans to begin implementing changes as soon as possible.
