The Results of the Lawrenceburg City Council Meeting

The Lawrenceburg City Council met this morning, Thursday, April 10th for several items to discuss and approve. At the beginning of the meeting, the Council announced the new City Engineer, Matthew Brown, who will oversee long range planning and spoke with Department Manager, Jerry Smith about roads and future updates of paving to come in Lawrence County. After the second readings for the Crockett Theater, the Parks and Recreation Department, and updating the occupational safety and health program plan they were all approved. For Crockett Theater, in County and local non-profit rental fees per day will be $600.00, out-of-County rental fees per day will be $1,250.00, and preservation fee per ticket will be $3.00. This order will take effect as of today since the council has approved it. For the Parks and Recreation, various fees include the array of programs and activities that the park host for the community. Activities include Girls Softball League, Spirit of Santa Program, Women’s Volleyball League, Men’s Softball League, Coed Softball League, Youth Basketball, Shelter Fee, Yoga Classes, Rotary Park Swimming Pool, Swimming Lessons, Old Armory Rental, Bobby Brewer Softball Field Usage, and several more. Each activity and program have set prices that were decided by the Parks and Recreation Department. These fees will take effect today since the council has approved it. After the first reading of entitles budget appropriations of revenue and expenditures for the 2024-2025 fiscal year for the city, the council approved the $40,000 expansion for the Lawrence County Public Library and are beginning to develop designs for the new property. Several resolutions were made at the meeting as well. The council agreed to enter an agreement with Game Time for playground equipment installation at Barry Hogue’s Park with a $60,000 budget. The council approved the appointment of Dwain Bradley and Brock Berryhill, as well as the reappointment of Matt Calvert to the Lawrenceburg Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Lastly, the council agreed to enter into a contract with the State of Tennessee for the sweeping of State streets within the city limits of Lawrenceburg. The addition of the Amish buggy lanes on the North side of Lawrenceburg have been a great asset for the county and have increased the revenue from the State for the cleaning of the streets.
