The Shelter, Inc., the recipient of last year’s WKSR Community Radio Auction, officially opened the doors of its second home for domestic violence victims in Pulaski.
The Shelter has been operating out of its main facility in Lawrence County since 1986, a five-bedroom facility where trained staff can provide resident services for up to 13 adults and children.
The Shelter Inc. last year served 120 women and 80 children in our Lawrence County location, a good number of those were from Giles County.
God eventually opened the door, a house was purchased, but it needed a lot of work to be ready to be a safe place for the women and children who would be staying there.
Volunteers and businesses from across Lawrence and Giles counties stepped up over the next couple of years to renovate and decorate the new facility.
The three bedroom home is expected to accommodate 10 adults and children at a time and offers storage areas for furniture and supplies to help set up women transitioning back into the world.
The new Shelter house in Pulaski is a place women, and their children, can find safe place when they make the decision to leave an abusive relationship.
A monthly wishlist for The Shelter is posted on their Facebook page, and yes, they need monetary support as well, no matter how small that support may seem, donations are always needed and sincerely appreciated, as well as prayers.
