The first solid waste convenience center in Lawrence County, located off Busby Road close to the Loretto Wastewater Treatment Facility, is still making progress. The City of Loretto donated the two-acre property to the county. Additionally, the state Department of Environment & Conservation awarded Lawrence County a $187,000 grant to help with construction. To meet residents’ schedules, the center will be staffed and open in the morning and evening on a part-time basis. Tires won’t be accepted, but the facility will take recyclables, household trash, and larger goods like beds and furniture. The majority of recyclables and household trash can be disposed of in the two drive-through lanes provided by the larger structure on the property. Batteries and used oil will be accepted at the smaller building. Other materials will have more specialized spaces.
