The City Council of Lawrenceburg met today, March 27th, at 9:00 AM in the council meeting room in the Municipal Complex located at 25 Public Square. Several ordinances and resolutions were on the agenda. Ordinances included establishing fees associated with the rental of the Crockett Theater Facility as well as the sale of tickets, establishing fees associated with participation in programs through the Lawrenceburg Parks and Recreation Department, and the first reading of an updated occupational safety and health program plan. Resolutions included renovations for the city, insurance limits, applying and accepting grants for the Tennessee Art Commission, and entering a contract grant agreement with the State of Tennessee Department of Military, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. All ordinances and resolutions were approved and passed by the council members. Crockett Theater’s First Full-Time Managing Director since becoming a performing arts center, Cozette Wallace, spoke about the price increase for rentals, performances, and tickets. With hopes of an increase of 20-50% for rental prices, the council moved to adopt this first reading ordinance, with the need for a more detailed budget plan for the future of the theater and its increasing prices. The next initial resolution discussed was the passing of authorizing the issuance of not to exceed twenty million dollars for General Obligation Bonds of the City of Lawrenceburg. The council agreed to accept the terms that it will not be able to be refinanced even if the interest rates drop, and the expected payoff date will be year 2031. This will not raise taxes; it will have a rate of 4%, and after being published in the newspaper, the community will have a 20-day duration time to protest the passing of the resolution. Lastly, entering the contract agreement with the State of Tennessee, Department of Military, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, the agreement will be directed for the fiscal year of October 1st, 2023, to September 30th, 2025, for reimbursement and help to increase EMS salaries.
