King’s Kids Daycare in Athens, Alabama, which serves almost 50 children each day, has suddenly shut down operations due to increasing safety concerns. On Thursday, Desire Horton, the daycare’s owner, announced the decision, citing several occurrences that have caused concern for the health of children and staff as the reasoning. On March 15th, security footage captured a man trying to gain access to the daycare, marking the start of safety concerns. The event was recorded on video and to deal with the concerns, Horton has been negotiating with local authorities since then. Horton states that, despite assurances of extra patrols to safeguard the daycare and its young students, these measures have not yet occurred. On Thursday morning, the last incident occurred when another man came up to the daycare while the children were present. The person did not get into the building, but he stayed in the vicinity for a few minutes. The daycare personnel contacted the police, and procedures were set in motion. The owner decided out of safety precautions to shut down to prevent future incidents from occurring.
