An elderly couple was rescued over the weekend after becoming trapped inside their vehicle during rising floodwaters according to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple was rescued along Horne Hill Road between Lawrenceburg and Pulaski.
Deputies Jeremy Mitchell and Stetson Thomas were both part of a team assigned to reach the couple. Mitchell and Thomas, both military veterans, are part of the swift water rescue team in Giles County.
When first responders arrived the water was about a foot from filling up the glove compartment in the vehicle.
Both deputies worked diligently to rescue the couple, and moments after the couple was rescued, their vehicle washed away.
After all was said and done, the deputies took the couple home.
According to deputies, the couple thanked first responders numerous times and only suffered bumps and bruises.
Several agencies including Giles County Fire and Rescue, Giles County Office of Emergency Management, Giles County EMS and Lawrence County Fire and Rescue responded to the water rescue.
