Reverend Dr. Charles E. Kimbrough, a civil rights activist, who organized the Giles County Branch of the NAACP, died March 1st, 2025, in Nashville at age 97. He was born in Prospect, attended Bridgeforth High School, was awarded the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal and the Purple Heart, enrolled at Tennessee A&I State University earning a degree in Biology, attended Tuskegee Institute to study veterinary medicine, and was pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Sparta, IL and Mt Zion Baptist Church in Watertown, and associate minister at Nashville’s Spruce Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Blondell Strong Kimbrough, brother, Lorence Kimbrough, son, Adric Winters Kimbrough and wife, Kim, daughter, Gwenell Buchanan and husband, Charles, and several other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday March 15th from 10:30 until 12.
Services will be at Spruce Street Baptist Church, 504 Spruce Street, Nashville.
Burial will be Monday March 17th at 10am at Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery, Nashville.
Terrell Broady Funeral Home-Nashville is in charge of arrangements for Reverend Dr. Charles E. Kimbrough.
