In news from our neighbors to the immediate North, The Maury County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public about a scam involving cryptocurrency.

Scammers are calling and demanding cryptocurrency, the irreversible type, making the stolen funds harder to recover.

Here’s what you need to know and look out for…

A caller claims your computer has a virus and demands crypto for repairs.

You’re told you’ve won a prize but must send crypto to claim it.

Someone threatens to release compromising information unless you send crypto.

An online relationship partner you’ve never met asks for crypto.

Promises of huge investment returns in crypto.

A supposed government or law enforcement official demands crypto for a fine, warrant, or bail.

A stranger instructs you on where to send crypto.

The sheriff’s office said that if something feels off, end the call immediately and contact your local authorities or your local law enforcement office.
