Governor Lee has now pushed for legislators to get on board to pass a voucher bill. Governor Lee’s universal private school voucher plan is expected to increase Tennessee taxpayers’ expenses by $861.9 million over the first five years, according to conservative estimates. The universal private school voucher initiative proposed by Governor Lee eliminates funding for public schools. It is a gift to out-of-state special interests and an aid for current private school kids. The education budget for every Tennessee public school student would rise by almost $893.00 if this money were instead directed toward public education. Giles County Schools will lose $3.1 million as a result of the private school voucher plan. TN ALL Corps tutoring for 2,078 students and 56 teacher salaries per year could be funded with the $3.1 million that would be taken to support the voucher. In support of our public schools, we encourage individuals to express their thoughts and vote against the passing of this voucher.
