The main chamber of Wilson Lock in Florence is expected to be repaired and reopened in June 2025, according to a revised timeline provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District. In September 2024, the pintle assembly and chamber gates were found to be cracked, rendering the main chamber unusable. After USACE’s Remotely-Operated Vehicle (ROV) team and dive-certified lock mechanics took pictures of the fractures, the district created a repair plan that initially projected a reopening date of April 2025. During the main chamber outage, the district is dedicated to keeping traffic moving through Wilson Lock as much as feasible. At the moment, ships can pass via the auxiliary chamber. To enhance efficiency, the district will try to minimize time during the repair process by raising and repairing both gate leaves at the same time. However, making sure the repairs are carried out safely and in compliance with the highest engineering standards is the district’s top concern. As Wilson Lock continues its renovations, more information will be accessible.
