Tips For Winter Weather

Here are a few helpful tips for the impending winter weather…

Leaving the water dripping, How much water should I leave dripping ?  You need just a trickle of water to drip so that water is moving through pipes consistently. (1 gallon per hour is all that is necessary; not every faucet in your house wide open.)

Which should I run, hot or cold water? Run the cold-water faucet.

Which faucets should I drip? If you know the faucet farthest from your water meter, you can run only that faucet, or faucets on exterior walls are the next to best option.

Should I open the cabinet doors? Opening the cabinets to allow warm air into those enclosed spaces can help and is recommended.

Unhook hoses from the faucets outside, Insulate pipes in garages, crawl spaces, and attics, and don’t forget other structures, barns, detached garages.
