Tennessee was among the top-ranked states for growth in 2024, according to a new Growth Index report.
The Volunteer state ranked #5 on the list behind South Carolina, Texas, North Carolina and Florida.
Those are the same top five growth states as in 2023, in a slightly different order. It’s the fifth consecutive year Tennessee has been ranked in the top ten and the first time South Carolina has topped the list.
In Tennessee, 51% of one-way moves were people relocating to the state, while 49% were those moving away.
Population growth overall in the state of Tennessee is expected to continue, with the University of Tennessee’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research predicting the number of residents growing to 7.5 million by 2030.
Rounding out the top ten were Arizona, Washington, Indiana, Utah and Idaho.
Meanwhile, the states with the least amount of growth were California (#50), Massachusetts (#49) and New Jersey (#48).
