Last week, the State of Tennessee gave the Lewis County Government a $500,000 Historical Development Grant, a fantastic Christmas gift! The award will be used to repair and replace the deteriorating windows in the historic Lewis County Courthouse, which was first constructed in 1939 during President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration. The state will pay 70% of the award, while the county will match the remaining 30%. A significant monument in Hohenwald, the courthouse has long served as a reminder of the neighborhood’s rich past. However, the courthouse’s windows are getting older and more worn, making maintenance more challenging. Thanks to this financing, they will be able to preserve the courthouse’s historical value for future generations while also making much-needed renovations to its windows. In addition to improving the building’s aesthetics, the new windows will lower operating expenses and conserve energy. Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner is very grateful to our State Representative Jody Barret and State Senator Dr. Joey Hensley for their continued support of the county’s infrastructure improvements and for their support of funding for the Historical Development Grant in the General Assembly.
