Jo Ann Lanning Appleton, age 93, of Gallatin, TN passed away Sunday, January 05, 2025, at her residence. She was a native of Lawrence County, TN, a graduate of Martin Methodist College, retired from Metro Nashville Public Schools, and a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Marvin and Flora Bedford Lanning; her husband, William D. Appleton; two brothers, Charles B. Lanning and George Lanning; and two sisters, Nancy Crowder and Peggy Dean.

She is survived by one son, Steve Appleton (Terri) of Gallatin, TN, one grandson, Joshua Appleton (Ashlee) of Springfield, TN; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Ellie, and Walker; three sisters, Pat Morgan of Lawrenceburg, TN, Lillian Henson of KY, Frances Rayfield of Lawrenceburg, TN; and one brother, Bob Lanning of Lawrenceburg, TN.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 08, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 09, 2025, with Billy Beal officiating. Interment will follow at Mimosa Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN.
