Coastal Lumber Company Buys Alabama Mill

Coastal Lumber Company announced that it had acquired the hardwood lumber mill operation located near downtown Stevenson, Alabama from Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. The purchase included the lumber mill as well as close to 84,000 acres.

Company officials stated that the purchase of the Stevenson lumber mill was made in hopes of complimenting the Coastal Lumber Company hardwood lumber mill in Pulaski, and creating the ability to better serve its hardwood lumber customers.

All former employees of Smurfit-Stone were allowed to retain their jobs at the new Coastal Lumber Company lumber mill in Stevenson, which has a yearly production capacity of 13.5 million lumber products.
