The Giles County Commission approved funding for new cardiac monitors for its emergency medical service crews.

The Giles County Commissioners approved the purchase, voting 14 to 7 for EMS to purchase a new fleet of cardiac monitors using money from the county’s capital improvement account.

The 10 new monitors total cost was $476,990, with an annual maintenance cost of $19,000, according to the Giles County Commission.

Giles County EMS will be switching from the Zoll-Series X cardiac monitor to the new Lifepack-35.

One of the big advantages of the new monitor is that we have the ability to transmit or live stream what’s on the monitor to a physician in the ER or in a cath lab so that they can see real-time what’s going on with the patient.

The new monitors will go into service at the start of the New Year.

Over the next few weeks, for the public, Giles County EMS said it will post facts on Facebook about the different features of the device that will be available to their crews while responding to emergencies.
