For the first time in quite a while a tax was successfully passed in Giles County.
The Giles County Sales and Use Tax Referendum passed yesterday by 5524 votes for, 4192 votes against, or 56.55% for, 43.15% against.
Incumbent aldermen Ricky Keith, Randy Massey, and Larry Worsham were re-elected. Janice Marks Tucker lost her bid to become an alderman by 2 votes.
In Ardmore, Jim Bonner, Wayne Harvell, and Harry Fortenberry were elected to serve as Aldermen.
Hometown Boy, Clay Doggett was re-elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives, District 70 by a 4-to-1 margin.
Joey Hensley was re-elected to the Tennessee Senate District 28 by a 3-to-1 margin, as were Scott Desjarlais to the US House of Representatives, District 4, and Marsha Blackburn to the United States Senate.
In all, 13,657 Giles Countians made their way to the polls on Election Day, or 65.66% of the registered voters in the county.
