Walgreens will be closing around 1,200 stores across the United States over the next three years, the pharmacy giant announced this week.

A recently released earnings report revealed that while the chain was able to increase sales, fourth-quarter sales in the retail pharmacy sector reached $29.5 billion, an increase of 6.5% from the fourth quarter in 2023 the company still experienced a $3 billion loss.

In a statement, Walgreens execuives said that in 2025, the chain will focus on “stabilizing” the retail pharmacy by optimizing its footprint, controlling operating costs, improving cash flow and continuing to address reimbursement models to support dispensing margins and preserve patient access for the future.

As for Tennessee, there are over 200 Walgreens stores in Tennessee, with nearly 100 scattered across Nashville and the Middle Tennessee area alone. Which Walgreens will close, and which will survive is still to be determined by the company.
