Oletia “Gay” Shook

Oletia “Gay” Shook, 89, of Anderson IN, passed away on September 23, 2024, at The
Waters of Middletown Nursing Home after a long illness. She was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She was born on January 23, 1935, in Albany, Kentucky, graduating from Clinton County
High School in 1952. She moved to Indiana soon after graduation and began working at
Delco Remy.

She was a Production worker for Delco Remy, retiring after 33 years of service. She
was a member of Ovid Community Church and Bethel Baptist Church. Her Christian
faith was central to her life. She enjoyed traveling with friends, and loved being a mom
and grandma.

Gay is survived by her loving spouse, Cass, whom she married on March 4, 1956.
Together they enjoyed over 20 years of their retirement on the Shook family farm in
Lauderdale County, Alabama, before moving back to be closer to her children and
grandchildren during her lengthy illness.

She is preceded in death by her father, Delmer Pitman; mother, Iva Cummings Pitman;
brother, Larry Ozro Pitman; sisters, Macine Weiman, Donna Young, Joyce Aaron; and
daughter, Lori Shook.

Those who loved and miss her include husband, Cass Shook, of Anderson, IN; son,
Barry Shook of Anderson, IN; son, Douglas (Alison) Shook of Moline, IL; grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Shook, Ethan (Kryn) Shook, and Lauren Shook; great-grandchildren, Myles, Penelope, Charlotte, Griffin, and Rowan. Also surviving is her dear sister, Wanda (Ken) Black of Muncie; many beloved nieces and nephews; and bonus daughter, Kim Russell.

Funeral Services will be Saturday September 28th at 1:00pm at Bonnertown Baptist Church and burial will follow in Bonnertown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice who have been such a
blessing over these last weeks. Many thanks to the staff at The Waters of Middletown
for their care and kindness.
