In news from our neighbors to the East, Fayetteville native Bennie Jennings is coming home, and returning to the Fayetteville Police Department where his law enforcement career began.
Jennings is going back to his hometown department, this time as police chief.
Jennings said he and his wife decided two years ago when he retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol they were coming back to Lincoln County. His last day with the Tennessee Highway Patrol is September 30th.
Jennings was born and raised in Mulberry, at Lincoln County High School he was a standout athlete before attending the University of North Alabama on a football scholarship. At UNA, he was one of the best tight ends in the history of Lions football. He was named to the First All-Conference Team for three years and a Division II All-American his senior year.
Jennings has been inducted into the UNA Athletic Hall of Fame and the LCHS Falcon Football Hall of Fame.
After graduating from UNA with a marketing degree, he became a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but suffered an injury, which Jennings said ended his football career.
