Teen Dies In Limestone County

Authorities in Limestone County confirmed a teenager drowned Last Week at Sportsman’s Park in Limestone County.

Deputies with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, described by Coroner Mike West as a 17-year-old from Athens, was at the dock Friday afternoon with his family when his phone fell in the water.

Family members identified the teen as Gustavo Ordoñez

Ordoñez jumped in the water to retrieve it, but his family said he never resurfaced.

Officials and family members confirmed Gustavo Ordoñez drowned in the lake while trying to retrieve his phone. The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said the drowning victim’s body was recovered later that night.

A GoFundMe has been established to help with the victim’s funeral expenses.
