A man who attempted to shoot a Florence Police officer and twice escaped the Lauderdale County Detention Center filed a plea on Tuesday, accepting a life sentence. Christopher Wayne Kilpatrick, 51, entered a guilty plea to two counts of second-degree escape, third-degree escape, first-degree promoting prison contraband, and attempted murder of a police officer. Judge Ben Graves of the Lauderdale County Circuit Court informed Kilpatrick that each count in the plea asks for a life sentence with the chance of parole. The sentences are going to be served consecutively. Kilpatrick was charged with first-degree theft of property, third-degree burglary, and breaking and entering a car in addition to the offenses he pleaded guilty to. The plea deal included the dropping of the charges.
