A former oncologist in Decatur pleaded a guilty plea to unlawfully prescribing opioids to individuals who were not his patients, then transferring the medication to women he had romantic ties to.
Before U.S. District Judge Madeline H. Haikala on Wednesday, Sammy Fuad Becdach, 57, entered a guilty plea to two counts of unauthorized distribution and dispensing of a controlled substance.
On November 13, a sentencing hearing is planned. The maximum punishment for distributing drugs is a $1 million fine and 20 years in prison.
