Fire at Marina in Lauderdale County on Sunday

AN EARLY MORNING FIRE DESTROYED TWO YACHTS ON SUNDAY AT THE TURTLE POINT YACHT CLUB MARINA. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL WERE DISPATCHED TO THE SCENE AROUND 7 AM WHERE IT WAS REPORTED A 65 FOOT YACHT WAS ON FIRE. UPON ARRIVAL UNITED FOUND THAT TWO YACHTS WERE INVOLVED AND THE FIRE WAS ENCROUCHING OTHERS.  CREWS WORKED TO REMOVE THE MAIN BOARD ON FIRE TO PREVENT OTHER BOATS FROM BEING EXPOSED AND SAFELY EVACUATED SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE ON NEARBY VESSELS. THE SECOND YACHT FIRE WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AND CREWS USED 15 GALLONS OF FOAM TO FULLY EXTINGUISH THE REMAINING FIRE ON THE MAIN YACHT. MEMBERS OF MID LAUDERDALE, CENTER STAR, AND GREENHILL FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED ALONG WITH FLORENCE FIRE AND RESCUE, MUSCLE SHOALS FIRE AND RESCUE AND ROGERSVILLE FIRED DEPARTMENT. LAUDERDLAE EMA ALSO ASSISTED WITH ALABAMA MARINE POLICE, LIFEGUARD EMS, LAUDERDLAE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND THE ALABAMA STATE FIRE MARSHAL OFFICE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
