According to the U.S. Secret Service, law enforcement agencies have seen a nationwide increase in skimming over the past 18 to 24 months, in specific targeting electronic benefit transfer or EBT cards.

Our neighbor’s in Lawrence County have been hit hard the last few weeks.

13 EBT fraud reports totaling almost $10,000 have been reported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

Skimming devices were found at a Lawrenceburg store, a second device at a Loretto store, and a third device at a Summertown store.

They’re laying a trap all over Middle Tennessee and when anyone uses an EBT card, they capture the information and they take out as much as they can when they can.

Deputies said the victims in Lawrence County EBT accounts were quickly drained.

Lawrence County authorities said they hope to pull surveillance footage from the stores to identify the suspects.

Neighboring counties also need to be aware that the Skimming problem is not just limited to Lawrence County.
