Red Cross Urges Blood Donation During National Preparedness Month
THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH, AND THE AMERICAN RED CROSS IS URGING RESIDENTS TO PREPARE FOR WORSENING EXTREME WEATHER AFFECTING THE STATE. THE RED CROSS HAS BEEN RESPONDING TO NEARLY TWICE AS MANY LARGE DISASTERS IN THE U.S. AS COMPARED TO A DECADE AGO. THE TENNESSEE REGION IS AT-RISK FOR FLOODING, TORNADOES, AND EXTREME HEAT. THIS IS A WORSENING NATIONAL TREND – SO THEY ARE PUTTING INTO PLACE AN AMBITIOUS NATIONAL PLAN TO TAKE URGENT ACTION. THIS INCLUDES AN INCREASE IN TRAINING DISASTER VOLUNTEERS ON HOW TO RESPOND TO DISASTERS LOCALLY AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY. VOLUNTEERS FROM TENNESSEE ARE CURRENTLY SERVING CLIENTS DEALING WITH WILDFIRES, TORNADOES, AND HURRICANES. FOR NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH, THEY URGE RESIDENTS TO TAKE THREE LIFESAVING ACTIONS:
1. GET A KIT
2. MAKE A PLAN – AND
3. BE INFORMED.
YOU MAY OBTAIN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION – LEARN ABOUT HOW TO VOLUNTEER – OR ACCESS SAFETY TIPS BY VISITING: RED CROSS.ORG.
