A TORNADO BROUGHT DAMAGE TO A HOST OF PROPERTIES IN SOUTHERN GILES COUNTY SATURDAY NIGHT. DOPPLER RADAR CONFIRMED THE TWISTER TOUCHED DOWN BETWEEN THE PROSPECT AND ELKTON COMMUNTIES NEAR VINTA MILL AND LIBERTY ROADS, AND ADJECENT AREAS. SEVERAL PROPERTIES SUSTAINED DAMAGE INCLUDING ONE RESIDENCE WHERE THE ROOF WAS SAID TO HAVE BLOWN OFF THE STRUCTURE. A HOST OF AGRICULTURAL RELATED PROPERTIES WERE DAMAGED, AND SEVERAL TREES WERE BLOWN DOWN. AT ONE POINT AROUND 600 PROPERTIES WERE WITHOUT POWER. EMERGENCY CREWS, INCLUDING THE GILES COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY RESPONDED TO THE AREA. AN OFFICIAL ASSESSMENT FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL DETERMINE THE STRENGTH OF THE TORNADO IN THE COMING DAYS.
