THE TENNESSEE VALLEY WEATHER CHANNEL, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF HOHENWALD AND HOHENWALD FIRE DEPARTMENT, RECENTLY INSTALLED A WEATHER OBSERVATION STATION AT HOHENWALD CITY HALL LOCATED ON WEST LINDEN AVENUE. THE STATION INCLUDES AN INSTRUMENT PACKAGE WITH ADVANCED SENSORS TO MONITOR TEMPERATURE, BAROMETRIC PRESSURE, DEW POINT, WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION, AND A 4K WEATHER CAMERA THAT HAS BEEN MOUNTED NEARLY 100 FEET ON THE CITY’S TOWER ALLOWING FOR AN OPTIMAL VIEW OF STORMS FOR MILES AROUND THE HOHENWALD COMMUNITY. DATA FROM THE OBSERVATION STATION WILL NOT ONLY BE USED BY THE TENNESSEE VALLEY WEATHER CHANNEL BUT ALSO SHARED DIRECTLY WITH THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND TENNESSEE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY IN AN EFFORT TO AID IN THE WARNING PROCESS. THE SENSOR PLATFORM PROVIDES FIVE SECOND CONDITION UPDATES WHILE MOST OTHER COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE WEATHER SENSORS ONLY TAKE MEASUREMENTS EVERY 10 TO 30 MINUTES. THE HOHENWALD OBSERVATION STATION IS THE 14TH IN THE TENNESSEE VALLEY WEATHER CHANNEL’S NETWORK OF SENSOR SITES ACROSS SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND NORTH ALABAMA. OTHER LOCATIONS INCLUDE COLUMBIA, MOUNT PLEASANT, LAWRENCEBURG, PULASKI, AND WAYNESBORO. TENNESSEE VALLEY WEATHER ALSO OPERATES AN ADVANCED DUAL POLARIMETRIC DOPPLER RADAR IN LAWRENCEBURG THAT SERVICES ALL OF LEWIS COUNTY AS WELL.
