Three year update:
Over three years in office and your Sheriff’s Department is continuing to improve its productivity and effectiveness. The times have definitely changed since taking office in 2018. Events such as the Covid-19 and the social injustice movement, have called for a slightly different way of policing. With that being said, our responsibilities to the good people of Lawrence County have NOT changed. Keeping you, your family and your property safe is still our number one priority. Staying one step in front of the crime in our county takes the efforts of everyone at the Sheriff’s Office. I have often said that drugs and crime go hand & hand in this area. Our plan hasn’t changed much since 2018. Eradicate the drug activity and the crime rate will decrease but fighting the methamphetamine epidemic has many challenges of late. High grade methamphetamine and fentanyl continue to poor into our country from the southern border. With that being said, our efforts for combating this plague are more steadfast than ever.
Family domestic disputes, overdoses and suicide attempts are up not just in our community but all across our state and country. The drug problem will always be one of our biggest challenges but this department will continue its effort to work diligently to fight the drug problems facing our community and state.
Another important task of mine as Sheriff is to make sure our tax dollars are spent in a way that we all see a return. Cutting wasteful spending and looking for ways to offset tax dollars is something that the command staff and I constantly keep in check. Monies derived from state and federal grants, government supported programs and our local drug fund are constantly used for training and equipment, taking the burden from our local tax dollars.
Over the past 6 months sheriff’s deputies answered 1327 calls for service through 911
Deputies made 80 drug arrest since the last reporting period resulting in 1.9 lbs of methamphetamine being taken off of our streets along with heroine and fentanyl.
Deputies served 1419 Criminal Warrants & 2019 Civil warrants
Deputies also conducted 1324 Traffic Stops
180 Animal related calls
199 Domestic Dispute calls
51 Suicide attempts
14 Overdoses
118 Burglaries
55 Fraud related calls
259 Reports of suspicious activity
70 Vandalism calls
68 Medical Calls
In short, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is better than ever. I’m never surprised but always impressed at how each and every deputy works diligently to help make our county a little safer every day. From the night shift correctional officers, patrol deputies, school resource deputies, court house security, warrant service, criminal investigators and the command staff, we all share the same perspective in making our county the best in the state.
