Henderson, Tennessee (Dec. 17, 2021) — Freed-Hardeman University has announced the appointment of Dr. Matt Vega as the dean of the College of Business. He will begin his duties Jan. 2, 2022.
Vega is currently the assistant dean of the FHU College of Business and a professor of business law and ethics at the university. A 1990 graduate of FHU, he joined the FHU staff in 2015 and has held various teaching and administrative positions since then, including vice president of enrollment management.
Vega holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Yale School of Law. Prior to his employment at FHU, he was the dean and professor of law at Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. He has served as in-house counsel for multiple businesses, including Federal Express.
FHU President David R. Shannon said, “Dr. Matt Vega is a man of accomplishment. He is a man of strong faith, and his credentials are impressive. He loves Freed-Hardeman, and he will successfully lead the already thriving College of Business to even greater heights. May God continue to bless Freed-Hardeman with great leaders.”
Dr. C.J. Vires, FHU provost and vice president for academics, said, “Dr. Vega’s skills, knowledge and experiences have tremendous alignment with the current and future leadership needs of the College of Business. When I think about coupling his caring spirit with his intellect and leadership, I get very excited about the future of the College of Business, especially the impact that Dr. Vega will have on the students, faculty and academic programs within it.”

FHU’s College of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, business analytics, finance, management, marketing and sport administration. The College of Business also offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a dual BBA/MBA. Academic programs within the college are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
