A LORETTO MAN FACES DRUG CHARGES FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC STOP EARLY THIS MONTH IN LAWRENCE COUNTY. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INITIATED THE STOP AROUND 11:01 FRIDAY DECEMBER 3RD ON SOUTH MILITARY AVENUE. UPON SPEAKING WITH THE DRIVER, IDENTIFIED AS 48-YEAR-OLD ERIC MICHAEL SMITH, AN ODOR OF MARIJUANA WAS PRESENT. CONSENT WAS GIVEN TO SEARCH THE VEHICLE AND SMITH HANDED THE DEPUTY A BAG FROM HIS POSSESSION OF A WHITE CRYSTAL SUBSTANCE WHICH SMITH ADMITTED WAS METHAMPHETAMINE. APPROX 1.5 GRAMS OF A GREEN LEAFY SUSBSTANCE WAS ALSO LOCATED ON HIS PERSON. SUSPECTED METHAMPHETAMINE. SMITHWAS ARRESTED AND FACES CHARGES OF DRIVING WHILE REVOKED AND DRIVING WHILE IN POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND SMITH WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LAWRENCE COUNTY JAIL WITHOUT INCIDENT.
